The BEO (Biodiversity Exploratories Office) coordinates the overall project and is based at the Senckenberg Biodiversity and Climate Research Centre in Frankfurt am Main. It is the central interface between all scientists inside and outside the platform, politicans, the authorities, media and the interested public.

The BEO is therefore the main point of contact for enquiries of all kinds, including requests for cooperation or data use. In addition to the central coordination of the research work, the support of the steering committee and the administration, public relations work is an essential task of the coordination office. This includes, among other things, the design of the website, the preparation of the internal newsletter, press work and the creative development of information materials. It also organises and coordinates the annual general BE Assembly with over 40 projects and more than 200 participants, as well as various internal training workshops on relevant research methods and social skills.

Another concern of the BEO is to support young researchers in their work and improve networking. To this end, we have established an exchange programme between collaborating working groups and an internal platform mentoring programme. We also organise regular career support workshops. Furthermore, the office is responsible for gender equality measures in the project and provides special funding opportunities for female scientists.

In addition, the BEO works closely with the teams of the local management (LMTs), the Central Data Management, and the Knowledge Transfer Project to optimise internal processes and to prepare scientific information for stakeholders such as landowners and practitioners, administrations and authorities. Articles and brochures in German and knowledge transfer tools are being produced, and supra-regional workshops are being offered. These are intended to bring the scientific work closer to the various target groups.

Picture: The diagram shows the task overview of the Central Coordination Office of the Biodiversity Exploratories. Five circular shapes, which overlap, represent the following areas: firstly, contact point administration, secondly, equality measures, thirdly, support for young female and male explorers, fourthly, coordination and synchronisation of management and research, and fifthly, public relations. In the middle of the circular shapes, as a central element, there is a smaller circle representing the offices of the Biodiversity Exploratories.
